Ceramic Waveguide Filter (CWF)
Technology Overview
The Ceramic Waveguide Filter (CWF) is a high-performance RF and microwave filter utilizing TE-mode resonators formed within a precision ceramic dielectric structure.
Unlike conventional TEM-mode filters, the Ceramic Waveguide Filter employs TE (Transverse Electric) mode resonance, providing superior power handling capability, high Q-factor, excellent frequency stability, and outstanding selectivity.
The technology is ideally suited for satellite communications, radar systems, aerospace, electronic warfare (EW), and defense applications requiring high-frequency and high-power operation.
Key Features
TE-Mode Resonator Technology
The Ceramic Waveguide Filter operates using TE-mode resonators. Compared with conventional TEM-mode structures, TE-mode resonators provide higher Q-factor and improved performance at microwave frequencies.
High-Frequency Capability
The resonator structure is based on a half-wavelength (λ/2) cavity design.
While larger than TEM-mode resonators, this architecture enables:
- Higher operating frequencies
- Improved selectivity
- Better out-of-band rejection
- Enhanced frequency stability
High Power Handling
Coupling is achieved through resonator geometry rather than electrode pattern coupling.
This results in:
- Reduced electric field concentration
- Lower conductor current density
- Improved thermal performance
- Higher power handling capability than monoblock filters
Superior Stability
The resonator structure is completely enclosed by grounded metallic surfaces, providing:
- Excellent EMI shielding
- Stable electrical performance
- Improved environmental reliability
- High manufacturing repeatability
Harmonic Suppression
To suppress unwanted harmonic responses, a TEM-mode section is introduced at the center of selected resonators.
This technology effectively suppresses spurious responses around approximately 1.5 times the fundamental frequency.
Connector Mountable Design
The filter can be directly integrated with standard RF connectors, including:
- SMA
- 2.92 mm (K Connector)
- Customized interfaces
Available Dielectric Materials
The Ceramic Waveguide Filter platform supports various dielectric materials depending on frequency range, size requirements, and performance targets.
Available dielectric constants include:
- εr = 5
- εr = 9
- εr = 20
- εr = 37
- εr = 45
- εr = 60
Higher dielectric constants enable further size reduction while maintaining excellent RF performance.
